Aside from catfish, anglers come to Alabama to get a hold of yet another type of freshwater fish. This fish is called as the bass, which is actually abundant in the state. At specific times, tournaments have been held regarding who catches the largest of the bass kind. Of course, because of that fact, I naturally became curious about them.So, just like the catfish, I got to learn about the basses at the Shoals Aquarium and Nature Center. Although the aquarium is just an exhibit, I get to know more and more about the most popular local fish there is in the state. There are actually many types of bass fishes: largemouth, smallmouth, spotted, and redeye basses. However, the largemouth bass is considered as Alabama’s state fish.
The largemouth bass is named because of its appearance. It has a wide mouth which is said to be big enough to swallow its own head. With its capabilities, it will eat anything it catches. It can be found in almost all types of water habitats in the state: ponds, lakes, rivers and many others. It can actually weigh up to 20 lbs.
